August - In London When It Sizzles

Elizabeth Street is almost back to normal, both Oliveto and The Thomas Cubitt are buzzing now they have extra outside seating, it’s worth taking the time to drop by. The same goes for Wild by Tart and The Jones Family Kitchen, which now fill the beautiful courtyard that is Eccleston Yards. If you are still in London on a stay-cation, it is a marvelous time to visit the area as it truly feels like being on holiday.

VICKISARGE is so happy to be open again and we are delighted to have multiple Pop Up events happening in the shop over the coming weeks. Showcasing incredibly diverse creative talents, which we believe makes a visit to our beautiful boutique extra worthwhile.

Our latest jewellery collections, perfect for that blissful Summer feeling, are now available.  And to further boost the mood, we are continuing to share our love and happiness with our legendary (up to) 80% sample sale.

This week we have the wonderful Kitty Arden Collection in store until Saturday 8th August. Her vibrant silks and hand painted linens are perfect for Holiday/Resort and are bursting with colour and flattering loose shapes.

Next week, from the 11th -13th August, Selina Blow is back with a sumptuous ready to wear collection.

Then the dreamy Mimi Wade will host a pop up and sample sale on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th August. We have been collaborating with Mimi on her jewellery collection for several years, but this is the first time her collection will be available in the shop so it really is not to be missed!

So it’s a busy and exciting August for VICKISARGE. With so many delicious options we know you will not be disappointed on arrival and as always we can’t wait to serve you.

We sign off with a fabulously interesting little video from Vicki’s dear friend Hamish Bowles of American Vogue.

Our Latest News

Firstly we would like to say a BIG Thank you for your continued support during these extraordinary times.

Before lockdown many of you came to our ‘Last Ever Sample Sale’ at 38 Elizabeth Street. However, due to the changing circumstances, we have now decided to stay in our beautiful shop for the time being. The boutique is open again, filled with wonderful new pieces with more to come. And with space still dedicated to our incredible Sample Sale, there really is something for everyone.

We have reopened to a different world and this pause has given Vicki and the team the opportunity to assess our business practices. The outcome being that we remain very proud of VICKISARGE and our small team of creatives. We continue to make every piece of jewellery by hand in our Elizabeth Street workshop. Vicki’s incredible stock of materials and vintage elements, accumulated over her 38 years of designing jewellery, is an invaluable resource to our unique designs. We are proud to recognise that our carbon footprint is small and we continue to put in practices which will allow our treasured earth to breathe.

During Lockdown Vicki found great pleasure in being at home, rediscovering her material stash to create simple and chic new pieces for the boutique. So please stop by for your ‘feel good’ factor. Many of you have told us what a joy it has been to add a pair of statement earrings to a Zoom call. To elevate your daily style, even on the darker days. To enjoy creations made with love and care.

For now we are open Tuesday - Saturday 11-5pm but we shall extend these hours as London reawakens.

And for those of you who are not ready to exit your home bubble, but still looking to indulge in our creations, we have options…

Our website vickisarge.com Which is open 24/7 and has been updated with new collections and old favourites.

Our fabulous concierge service. If you are local to Belgravia, we are happy to deliver an edited selection of styles to your doorstep, all ready to purchase when you find the one.

A virtual appointment - via the services of WhatsApp, FaceTime or Skype. We already engage with a number of international clients this way and it has proved a very successful way to show clients the boutique’s many delights.

We do hope you will agree that we offer a wide range of routes to covet your beloved VICKISARGE.

We look forward to serving you!

Hardly Time To Catch Our Breathe

Better late than never…..it’s been a busy time for team VICKISARGE. Breathe was barely drawn between completion of our beautiful and very successful collaboration with Buckingham Palace, to designing jewellery for Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty presentation during New York Fashion Week.

Royal Collection

This is the 2nd year we have been lucky enough to design for Buckingham Palace’s Royal Collection. The collaboration is based around colour and pays tribute to the Queen’s own jewellery collection, without trying to replicate the designs.   Many of the styles have been taken from our own collections but are strongly historic in their inspiration.  The pieces have proven to be popular with the Palace’s many visitors. They are a wonderful keepsake to be worn and cherished.

Savage x Fenty

I was so excited to work on Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty show mainly due to the positive body images she champions for all. It was so much fun being part of a production which emphasises the individual as strong and powerful, making her own way in the world. It was also so inspiring to work alongside the creative team who really want to celebrate and elevate women’s shapes and styles. And…the jewellery was so stand out and really was part of what made the show fantastic. I must say an extra big thank you to my team for working so hard on this amazing project.

Marie Helene de Taillac

After our work on Savage X Fenty was complete, I made a quick trip to the Pret a Porter shows in Paris and to help celebrate the book launch of one of my most cherished friends Marie Helene.  “Gold and Gems” in a beautiful testament to her work, showcasing the beautiful simplicity of her designs alongside her powerful gold craftsmanship and her trademark cut of the stones.

Dovima

While in Paris I can’t forget to say a huge thank you to the ‘hostess with the mostess’  Jane Pendry was busy with  her Dovima Paris appointments as well as getting ready for her US Road Trip, but she was still kind enough to let me crash in on her life. Love You Jane and the collection is sensational - I couldn’t stop myself from spending, of course!

James Sherwood

Speaking of books - I was sadly away for the very successful launch of James Sherwood’s book on Henry Poole.  This event happened at Coutts Bank - with Princess Anne presiding over the wonderful Henry Poole exhibition of workmanship. I am so proud of James and was very sad not to be there to celebrate this wonderful achievement.

Detroit

I was invited to join my dear friend the milliner Stephen Jones for an event in my home town of Detroit.  Stephen was asked to do a lecture at the Michigan Theatre by Penny Stamps Lecture series. This is part of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.  The series is supported by Linda Dresner and the following day we were able to have an in-store Trunk Show with both Stephen Jones and Vicki Sarge designs. Chrisstina Hamilton was our fabulous host and organiser and one of the joys of the trip was meeting her. I am certain she will be a  lifelong friend.

Below is  a couple shots of the work from Leon Dickey at his gallery upstairs at Linda Dresner.  Thank you Leon for arranging a wonderful trip and making us feel so welcome.

New York

On the last leg of this trip we had a whirlwind visit to New York and we were lucky enough to be given a private tour of PARIS: The Capital of Fashion by Valerie Steele (Museum at F.I.T.)  It was wonderful and a real treat and so a big thank you to Hamish Bowles for making it happen.

Let Summer Commence

May and June were so packed with events that I haven’t had the chance to get a blog out any earlier. It really has been a whirlwind few months.

Amalfi

In May I was lucky enough to have a week in Naples and the Amalfi Coast. It wasn’t my first trip, so this time I was determined to visit Pompeii. In Naples we started at the Thomas Dane Gallery, where he was presenting the work of Cecily Brown titled ‘We Didn’t Mean To Go To Sea’. The Gallery in Naples was such an amazing venue for this exciting work, it was a an inspiring and tranquil hour in an otherwise busy day.

Cecily Brown

On the Coast we enjoyed some sunshine. Although it wasn’t very warm, I still managed a swim in the sea and I am quite proud of myself for doing so! In fact it was so wonderful, I once again skipped Pompeii and only managed to get to Oplontis, a villa outside Pompeii. I absolutely loved it but shall definitely be returning to Pompeii at a later date.

Buckingham Palace

Luckily we were back in time to attend our invitation to one of the Queen’s Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace. It was the first time Becca and I had been invited so we were a little excited! We enjoyed the presence of The Queen, Prince William and Kate and the tea was pretty amazing too.

The best, however, was just sitting back, relaxing and people watching in the beautiful surroundings.

Garsington

Spring always starts with the delivery of our jewellery to the Garsington Opera season at Wormsley Estate and tickets to a dress rehearsal. This year we saw the production of Don Giovanni. It’s a joy to see and always so rewarding to work with the team and meet the other artisans who create the unique and hand crafted gift items available.

Belgravia In Bloom

Elizabeth Street has always led the way with the floral fantasies which celebrate The Chelsea Flower Show. This year the theme for Belgravia was ‘The Language of Flowers’. We kept to a very Victorian look for our window and inside the shop we celebrated with colour and the brilliant, bright stones of our exciting Spring Collection.

This Season we have created a simple flower design called Pop and it is, by far, our biggest seller at the moment. The pieces are made from simple bold shapes, mainly in gold with a pop of strong colour.

Fashion Roundtable

Also in May we collaborated with Tamara Cincik founder of Fashion Roundtable in hosting a fabulous creative workshop at the boutique. It was a great success and I truly believed everyone who came enjoyed the event immensely. The evening began with an informal Q&A between Tamara and myself. Chatting about my early days starting the business, the progression and direction we have now taken. We then enjoyed refreshments and an intimate workshop in which everyone made a piece of jewellery. It was a delightful group of people and all of us had a great time.

The Wallace Collection

We began June with an exciting new collaboration with London’s The Wallace Collection. Each limited edition piece we created was inspired by the artwork within and some include cameos of the most iconic paintings in the Gallery. The setting is so wonderful, made even more so, with the current Manola Blahnik presentation displayed within the collection. I truly believe that the Wallace is the most romantic museum in London, it is held with such affection and is a constant source of inspiration for all who appreciate romance and beauty.

Belgravia Square BBQ

What fun we had at the annual Belgrave Square BBQ. Becca, Maya and myself were invited to the table of our good friend and client Stacey Kivel. The food and drink were delicious with Uni Japanese for Starters and Mossiman hosting the BBQ. Everyone was in festive spirits and we ended up dancing the night away.

Knightsbridge Rocks

On the 19th of June Knightsbridge Rocks and VICKISARGE hosted yet another  successful evening talk at 38 Elizabeth Street. This was presented by Nevin Bayoumi who is a gemologist and she discussed where to begin when collecting vintage jewellery. Nevin was fascinating and we hope that we will do another talk in the Autumn.

The Damned

I just have to make a comment on the recent play I went to at the Barbican. An adaptation of the Visconti film script of The Damned, produced and directed by Ivo van Hove with the Comedie-Francaise. It was the most intense theatre experience in my lifetime! It was amazing and disturbing all at the same time and I am so glad I saw this incredible version.

Edifice Dance Theatre

Last weekend we had a group outing to the Cockpit Studios in NW1. One of our designers, Nathalie David, is a friend of Fabio Dolce who recently formed the dance troupe Edifice with Harriet Waghorn and Carmine de Amici. They performed a magnificent version of Oscar Wilde’s Salome. We will keep you posted on further performances, so you can see for yourself. Nathalie had stepped in to help with the costumes, creating empowering and timeless looks to compliment the performance.

Our Alumni - Maiko Takeda

If you’ve read my blog before, you know that we like to feature other designers in our shop. This month we are focusing on one of our Alumni. Maiko was part of our team whilst attending St Martins for her BA and then RCA for her Masters in Millinery. We always knew she was amazing and now she is proving this to the world with her creativity and vision. Her pieces have been worn by Bjork and received intentional praise and she is currently working for Issey Miyake accessories. It’s a pleasure to watch her shine.
